LIGONIER — Ligonier Valley opened its season by racking up 13 hits, including six doubles, and rolling to an easy 9-0 win over Purchase Line in a Heritage Conference softball game Wednesday.
Ligonier Valley plated four runs in the first inning and scored two runs on three hits and a walk in the third to extend its lead to 6-0.
Courtney Frappier led Ligonier Valley with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Jeanie Markosky added a single, a double and two RBIs, and Breanne Wallace had a single, a double and an RBI. Hannah Yeskey chipped in a single and a double, and Brittany Lynch doubled.
Hailey Umbaugh tossed a four-hitter, striking out eight and walking three.
Tia Adams doubled to pace Purchase Line.
Losing pitcher Amy Elling struck out five and walked one in five innings.
Both teams play Friday. Ligonier Valley travels to United, and Purchase Line (0-1) visits Blairsville.
