HS SOFTBALL: Indians rally for first win

Indiana piled up 15 hits and used big bursts in the fourth and sixth innings to earn a 12-7 come-from-behind win over Hampton in a WPIAL Section 5-AAA softball game Thursday in Allison Park.

The Indians trailed 6-3 before plating four runs on four hits and three errors in the top of the fourth inning to build a 7-6 lead. Dana Piper fueled the rally with a two-run double.

Indiana then padded its 9-7 lead in the sixth by scoring three runs on two hits, a sacrifice fly and an error to make it 12-7.

Jayci Drew led Indiana with three singles and three RBIs. Bethany Balencic singled and doubled, and Adrain Smith and Briana Billon each singled twice.

Brooke Ruffner struck out one and walked three in a complete-game win.

Indiana (1-1) plays host to Knoch today.

 

DEER LAKES 16, APOLLO-RIDGE 0: Deer Lakes blew a 2-0 game wide open and plated 14 runs in the fourth to blank Apollo-Ridge in a WPIAL Section 3-AA game in Spring Church.

The game was shortened to four innings due to the mercy rule.

Deer Lakes pitcher Tiffany Edwards fired a no-hitter. Edwards struck out seven and walked one.

Apollo-Ridge (0-1) travels to Burrell on Friday.
