U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., gave a very feeble explanation on his decision to support same-sex marriage. He said, “If two people of the same sex fall in love and want to marry, why would our government stand in their way?”
His basis is on the emotional face of two people falling in love, while ignoring the fundamental foundation of what is truly marriage.
Marriage was not man’s idea. It is an institution created by God. Genesis 2:24 says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
There will never be a marriage of two men or two women in the sight of God. Man can call it what he wants, but it will never change the intent of God.
God did not create marriage on the basis of two people falling in love. He created marriage for the procreation of the human race through a man and a woman who will commit to love each other for life. It is obvious that two men or two women will never bring forth offspring. Studies have been consistent to show that children do better when raised by a married mom and dad.
If marriage can be redefined as two people falling in love, there remains no foundation of how it may be redefined in the future. What if three people fall in love, or what if an adult and a minor fall into love? Sen. Casey’s answer should be applicable to them as well: “Why would our government stand in the way?”
My answer to the senator’s question is simply: The foundational laws of a society are not built upon what serves two people falling in love. They are to be built upon what preserves a society as a whole.
As we watch the moral decline in our country as it falls away from its foundational values, please don’t ask “Why?”
And especially when catastrophes fall upon us, please do not ask “Where was God?” when you so blatantly abandon the clear teaching of Scripture, America’s founding Judeo-Christian values and the teachings of your own church.
