Bobcats crush Northern Cambria

Blairsville ace Emilie Okopal tossed a two-hitter, and the unbeaten Bobcats amassed 15 hits en route to an 11-1 win in a Heritage Conference game that was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The Bobcats, who piled up six extra-base hits, extended their early 2-0 lead by scoring five runs on six hits and an error in the bottom of the second inning.

Mackenzie Livingston led Blairsville with a single, a triple and three runs scored. Sam Harsh singled, doubled and scored a run, and Shelby Oswald singled twice and doubled. Jessica Harper doubled and drove in a pair of runs, and Cassidy Edmundson singled and doubled.

Okopal, who struck out seven and walked one, also singled and scored three runs.

Blairsville (4-0) travels to Marion Center on Thursday. Northern Cambria (3-3) heads to United on Monday.

Indiana wins junior high meet

Indiana defeated Punxsutawney, 84-38, in a seventh- and eighth-grade track meet Wednesday.

Indiana’s winners were Bobby Bell in the discus and 100, Tommy Arbuckle in the 200 and triple jump, Dakota Gunsullas in the 110 hurdles, Adam Lenze in the 1,600, Nathan Hilliard in the 400 and Jordan Smith in the 800. Indiana also swept the relays.

Peewee football registration set

Registration for Indiana peewee football will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the former Old Navy store at the Indiana Mall.

Late registration will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the same location.

The registration fee is $75. Checks should be made payable to Indiana First Down Boosters.

Indiana takes two in tennis

Indiana won all 10 matches against Springdale, winning 5-0 twice in a WPIAL Section 4-AA doubleheader at the White Township Recreation Complex.

John Appolonia became the first Indiana freshman to win at No. 1 singles since Jarod Medvetz in 1996, beating Springdale’s Justin Fetes to open the second match. Appolonia teamed with Jimin Chun to win at No. 1 doubles in the first.

Justin Fleming won at No. 1 singles in the first match, then at No. 1 doubles, with Jacky Li, in the second.

Jonathan Karcher won two singles matches, and Li and Chun added one apiece.

Caleb McCombi and Greg Olechovski won at No. 2 doubles in the first match, then Olechovski and Badi Zhou took No. 2 doubles in the second.

Indiana (5-3) will compete in the WPIAL singles championships starting Monday.

The Indians will visit both Highlands and Valley in team matches on Wednesday.
