BASEBALL: Host Saltsburg falls to Ligonier Valley

LIGONIER VALLEY 15, SALTSBURG 3: Visiting Ligonier Valley raced to a 9-0 lead and outhit Saltsburg 14-2 en route to a win in a Heritage Conference game that was shortened to six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The Rams led 4-0 before plating five runs on seven hits and a walk in the third inning to take a 9-0 lead.

Luke Ferlin paced Ligonier Valley by going 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Ryan Torrance singled twice, scored three times and drove in a run, and Matt Ryan singled, doubled, scored three times and drove in a run. Zach Yeskey smacked a three-run homer, and Ty Ferlin drove in two runs.

Andrew Schultz tossed a two-hitter, striking out six and walking two. Schultz also stroked four singles, scored twice and drove in three runs.

Mitchel Yard doubled, hit a solo homer, scored three runs and drove in three runs for Saltsburg.

Both teams play Wednesday. Saltsburg (1-3) travels to Purchase Line, and Ligonier Valley plays host to Northern Cambria.
