MARION CENTER 10, PURCHASE LINE 0: Host Marion Center took an early 3-0 lead and never let off the throttle, piling up nine hits to blank Purchase Line in a Heritage Conference game that was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The Stingers led 6-0 before plating four runs on three hits, a walk and an error in the bottom of the fifth inning.

C.J. Stiles struck out 11, walked two and allowed one hit in six innings to earn the win. Stiles, who also doubled, scored a run and drove in two runs, has struck out 21, walked five and allowed four hits in 12 1-3 innings this season.

“C.J. just pitched an outstanding game,” Marion Center coach Paul DeHaven said. “That’s two nice games in a row for him. He also pitched a great game against Blairsville. He’s been impressive so far.”

Matt Shank led Marion Center by going 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Hunter Stiteler added two singles and two RBIs, and Jake Bothell singled in two runs.

Zach Bartlebaugh singled to notch Purchase Line’s lone hit.

Both teams play Wednesday. Marion Center (2-3) plays host to United, and Purchase Line welcomes Saltsburg.
