IUP GOLF: Hawks place fourth at Mystic Rock

FARMINGTON — Zack Kempa tied for third with a 4-over-par 149 to help IUP to a fourth-place finish in The Challenge at Mystic Rock, hosted by California University.

Kempa shot an even-par 72 in the first round Sunday and followed that with a 77 in the second round Monday. He finished six strokes off the lead.

IUP finished at 619 in the two-round tournament, eight strokes back after leading by five strokes in the first round.

Kenny Sames tied for ninth with a 9-over 153. Derek Baker and Jack Owen tied for 38th at 18-over 162, and Sean Sweithelm tied for 51st with a 22-over 166.

Concord (W.Va.) won the team title with a 611. Sabastian Bendsen of Davis & Elkins (W.Va.) was the individual winner with a 1-under 143.

IUP plays in the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional at the Robert Trent Jones Sr. Gold Course in Wheeling, W.Va., on May 6-8.
