Indiana Borough police reported that an automated phone scam using phone numbers from actual businesses has been soliciting debit card information from area residents.
According to police, the people behind the scam are fraudulently using “numerous” numbers belonging to actual businesses to call residents, telling them that their debit card was compromised and asking them to enter their information to reactivate it.
Specific bank names are used in the message, though police did not report which ones, but no bank has authorized the calls.
The calls were reported to police on Monday.
Police reminded residents to never give out information to people or businesses they do not know.
