Chicken barbecue

ARMAGH — A chicken barbecue will be held from noon to 4 p.m. today at the Armagh United Methodist Church.

The cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 4 to 11, and free for children 3 and younger.

Dinner includes a half of a chicken, parsley potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, roll, dessert and drink. The children’s dinner includes a drumstick.

Benefit car cruise

COMMODORE — Purchase Line United Methodist Church is holding a benefit car cruise starting at 4 p.m. today to support the Russ and Becky Schuring family, who are missionaries to the indigenous people of Brazil.

There is no entry fee for the car cruise and everyone is invited to attend. The first 50 cars entered will receive a free gift bag. There will also be food available and chances to win a gift basket.

Pennsylvania Dutch buffet

PENN RUN — A Pennsylvania Dutch buffet will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Penn Run Christian Outreach Center, 75 Grace Center Road, Penn Run.

The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 to 11. The menu includes chicken gravy with chunks of chicken, waffles, biscuits, noodles, mashed potatoes, vegetables, broccoli salad, coleslaw, desserts and drink.

BROOKVILLE — A giant rummage sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at 336 Madison Ave., Brookville. Proceeds benefit those in need through the Just for Jesus Challenge Homeless Outreach Ministry.

Stuffed pork/ chicken dinner

GIRTY — A stuffed pork chop or stuffed chicken breast dinner will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Girty Road, Girty.

Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children ages 4 and younger.

Friends and family day

The Wesleyan Methodist Church, on the corner of Church and 12th streets, Indiana, invites everyone to attend its friends and family day Sunday at 10:45 a.m. The Allegheny Wesleyan College choir from Salem, Ohio, will be ministering in song.

Puppet show

CREEKSIDE — A grant from the United Way of Indiana County has presented a set of colorful puppets to Center Presbyterian Church in Creekside. Every month the children put on a play for residents of Indian Haven.

At 11 a.m. Sunday, the children will put on a puppet play for the community at the church. Everyone is also welcome at the 11:30 a.m. service when Holy Communion will be served by Pastor Ann Miner.

Spaghetti dinner

LEWISVILLE — Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Lewisville will be holding an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today.

The cost is $7 per person. Takeout is available. Proceeds benefit a trip to the 2013 PCUSA Youth Triennium.

Mass with prayers, blessings

The Rev. William Kiel, pastor at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, White Township, will celebrate a Mass with prayers and blessings for healing at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Missionary hymn sing

SAGAMORE — There will be a missionary hymn sing beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Holiness Gospel Center Church, Cemetery Road, Sagamore. There will be special music and singing. Everyone is invited to attend.

Spring revival meeting

Victory Baptist Church, 139 Wiley St., Homer City, is having spring revival services with evangelist Alva Blankenship, from West Virginia. Soup lunch

A soup lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Grove Chapel Lutheran Church (near Musser’s Nursery). The cost is a free-will offering, and the menu includes vegetable soup with beef, dessert and beverage.

For takeout, please bring a container for the soup. All proceeds benefit church improvements.

DERRY — A spaghetti dinner to benefit the Shaffer family, who lost their home in a fire, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Derry First United Methodist Church. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 and under. Dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, rolls, coffee, iced tea, water and dessert.

Clothing drive and recycling

SALTSBURG — The Saltsburg Methodist Church is having a clothing drive the first two weeks in May to replenish clothing for My Best Friend’s Closet. The next My Best Friend’s Closet will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 11 at the church, 813 Salt St., Saltsburg.

Gently used clothing is sought for babies, children, teens, men and women in all sizes. The clothing will then be available to anyone in need for free. Items can be dropped off at the church basement door in bags marked “MBFC.”

The church is also accepting old shoes, purses and clothing that can be used for rags and insulation. Items can be dropped off at the church basement door in bags marked “rags.”

‘Gardener’s Paradise’

SAXONBURG — A “Gardener’s Paradise” celebration to benefit a youth mission trip will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Saxonburg.

The event includes a pancake breakfast, plants, crafts, books, quilt displays, baked goods and an auction. Attendees can learn how to plant a container butterfly garden.

Swiss steak dinner

ROBINSON — The Helping Hands of the Robinson Evangelical United Methodist Church is holding a Mother’s Day Swiss steak dinner from 11:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. on May 12 at the church, at 332 Mary St., Robinson.

The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. Children ages 4 and younger eat for free. Takeouts are available.

Evangelist to speak

ROCHESTER MILLS — Evangelist David Barker will speak at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. May 12 and 7 p.m. May 13 and 14 at Calvary Bible Church, Pine Vale Road, near Rochester Mills, Grant Township.

Barker was a correctional officer in the state of Indiana for 18 years. He published a booklet, “Behind the Prison Walls,” which gives accounts of his ministry to inmates. While working in the prison, the inmates gave him the title of Preacherman.

Gospel music festival

ARMAGH — A gospel music festival will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. May 17 and 1 to 10 p.m. May 18 at the Armagh United Methodist Church.

Featured performers May 17 include The Choraliers & Pearl, Clowns For Jesus, Brenda Mishler and Amy Ward. The kitchen will be open from 5 to 8 p.m.

Performers May 18 include The Choraliers & Pearl, Clowns For Jesus, Brenda Mishler, Heaven 4 Shore, The Masters, Randy Simpson, Dwayne Kaufman and Diane Myers. The kitchen will be open from noon until 8 p.m.

The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, haluski, stromboli, pizza, dessert, pop and water. A free-will offering will be accepted. Everyone is welcome to attend.
