SALTSBURG — Saltsburg High School took first place at the Heritage Conference mathematics competition on April 3.

This year’s competition was held at Marion Center with eight teams competing. The students first took individual tests and then moved through different timed stations that had group problem-solving activities.

Cody Stewart and Ben Gerstel, who were participating for their second year, were Saltsburg’s MVPs, scoring highest on their individual tests.

Marissa Meckley, a Saltsburg team member, said, “We couldn’t have done it without our wonderful math teacher, Mrs. (Lisa) Shimer.”

Judging was based on both the group activities as well as the individual tests. Members of the team are Stewart, Gerstel, Meckley, Destinee Kelly and Doug Bender.
