MARS — Andrew Wetzel and Nick Cornell combined for nine goals in Indiana’s 13-8 victory over Mars in a WPIAL Division II non-section lacrosse game Thursday.
Wetzel scored five goals and Cornell fired in four. Ryan Watters, David Zimmerman, Tyler Milsop and Ted Avolio also scored for Indiana (8-3).
On defense, Sean Rhodes made 19 saves in goal, Cornell had three ground balls, and Sam Grieggs had two.
Indiana won the junior varsity game 5-2. Dylan Stapleton scored three goals, and Pat Snyder and Adam Hastings had one each for Indiana (6-3).
On defense, Brett Brice made five saves in goal, and Max Kittlemann had four. Ian Hatter and John Lewis Gatti each had three ground balls.
Indiana plays host to Latrobe on Wednesday.
Indiana wins junior high meet
Indiana defeated Greensburg Salem, 89-34, in a junior high boys’ track and field meet Wednesday.
Sam Lenze (1,600), Nathan Doyle (200), Jordan Smith (high jump), Andrew Lin (long jump), Bobby Bell (shot put), Jacob Kovalchick (discus) and Reed Harkleroad (pole vault) won individual events for Indiana.
Indiana’s 3,200 relay team of Nathan Hilliard, Doyle, Dominic Ciocca and Lenze, the 400 team of Bell, Tommy Arbuckle, Kovalchick and Harkleroad, and the 1,600 team of Dakota Gunsallas, Doyle, Hilliard and Lenze also took first place.
Indiana visits Franklin Regional on Monday.
CMA wins two softball games
Christian Missionary Alliance won its first two games of the Indiana County Church League softball season, defeating Grace I, 19-8, and Divine Destiny, 13-9, on Thursday.
Scott Shirley pounded out five hits to lead CMA in the first game. Steve Timko had four hits, and both had triples. Dan Shirley, Dave Raymond, Ken Brennan and Brian Adair added three hits each for CMA.
Dan Shirley and Hilliard had three hits each, and CMA scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the second game.
Steven Thomas slugged two home runs for Divine Destiny.
Ray Nyland was the winning pitcher in both games.
• Gilgal Presbyterian topped Bethel Presbyterian, 13-10.
Bill Gasior had three hits, including a double and a triple, and two RBIs. Bobb Patterson also had three hits, including a triple, for Gilgal.
Jason Canose slugged a homer, and George Campbell added two hits.
Chris Hibbs and John Steigert each went 4-for-4 to lead Bethel.
Jeff Cribbs was the winning pitcher.
Indiana drops JV baseball game
DERRY — Indiana lost to Derry, 14-3, in a junior varsity baseball game Thursday.
Chase Kromer had two hits for Indiana.
Indiana plays host to Marion Center on Monday.
Meadow Lane names winners
The Meadow Lane Ladies 18-Hole Golf League named its winners from Wednesday’s event.
Kathy Glassford was one of the tournament winners. Glassford also got special prizes for sinking birdies on No. 3 and No. 5.
Theresa Wise was the other tournament winner, and Ann Poliziani was the special event winner for longest putt.

McDonald’s scores Little League win
HOMER CITY — McDonald’s defeated Homer City S&T Bank, 20-8, in a Little League 11- and 12-year-old division interleague baseball game Thursday.
Ewing Greenhill had four hits, including a home run, to lead McDonald’s. Aaron Burkhart, Colin Carnahan and Luke Thomas added three hits each. Ryan Pasternak, Burkhart, Gunner Sharp and Thomas pitched for McDonald’s.
Tanner Yancy went 2-for-4 with a home run for Homer City S&T.
IASB slates skills camp
The Indiana Area Soccer Boosters will hold its annual soccer skills camp from June 17 to 20 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The camp is for boys and girls entering grades 1 through 8. The cost is $70 per child.
