Seven IUP students inducted into honors society

Seven local students were selected for membership in Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.

The organization is open to freshmen students who achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. IUP’s Phi Eta Sigma chapter members participate in a number of projects annually, ranging from blood drives for the American Red Cross to volunteer service with the IUP Allegheny Arboretum project.

Local students selected for the honor society include:

• Emma Brady, of Commodore, daughter of Angela and James Brady and a 2012 graduate of Purchase Line High School. She is an early childhood education/special education major at IUP.

• Marissa Ann Emanuel, of Blairsville, daughter of Patrick and Melissa Emanuel and a 2012 graduate of Blairsville High School. She is a child development major.

• Catheryn Hunter, of Indiana, daughter of Craig and Dawn Hunter and a 2012 graduate of Indiana Area High School. She is a nursing major.

• Katharine McKinney, of Indiana, daughter of Kevin and Lisa Smith and a 2012 graduate of Indiana Area High School. She is a criminology major in IUP’s Robert E. Cook Honors College and a member of the Residence Hall Council. She volunteers for the Haven Project.

• Karlee M. O’Harra, of Shelocta, daughter of Wilfred and Pamela O’Harra and a graduate of Elderton Junior/Senior High School. She is a nursing major at IUP.

• Jennifer Sleppy, of Penn Run, daughter of Daniel and Donna Sleppy and a 2012 graduate of Penns Manor High School. She is a nursing major at IUP.

• Jacob Winstead, of Indiana, son of Ray and Dawn Winstead and a 2012 graduate of Indiana Area High School. He is an economics major at IUP.
