IUP GOLF: Hawks make move in regional

WHEELING, W.Va. — IUP led the field with an 11-over 295 on Tuesday and pulled within four strokes of the lead in the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional golf tournament at Oglebay Resort’s Robert Trent Jones Course.

The third and final round is today. The top three teams advance to the national tournament in Hershey.

The Crimson Hawks sit second at 35-over 603 through two rounds. Tournament leader Wilmington (Del.) is at a 31-over 599 after shooting a 301 in the second round.

IUP’s Zack Kempa made up one shot in the individual race, bouncing back from Monday’s 75 with a 1-under 70 on Tuesday. He is two shots behind Millersville’s Robert Coyne, who also shot a 1-under 70 and moved into first place at 143.

IUP’s Jack Owen also rebounded to shoot a 3-over 74 and is nine shots back at 10 over. Kenny Sames is 12 over, Derek Baker is 14 over, and Sean Sweithelm, an Indiana High School graduate, is 18 over.
