Amfire Mining pitcher Troy Trimble fired a two-hitter, and the Indies broke open a close game in the fifth inning and blanked Trendy Trades, 4-0, in an Indiana County League baseball game Thursday at Keystone Rehab Field.
With the Indies nursing a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Chad Blystone ripped a two-run double to score Danny Clark and Nick Holuta, making it a 3-0 game.
Three batters later, Aaron Princes belted a double to plate Blystone, stretching the Indies’ lead to 4-0.
“He put the ball in the gap and made it pretty easy for those two guys to get in,” Amfire Mining player-manager Ryan Davies said of Blystone. “He also put himself in scoring position for Princes to knock him in a few at-bats later. Those were big runs.”
Clark paced Amfire Mining by going 2-for-2 with a triple.
Trimble struck out six and walked one.
Kurt Krejocic struck out five, walked five and allowed six hits in a complete-game loss.
Both teams play Sunday. Amfire Mining (3-0) plays host to Bovard, and Trendy Trades travels to Blairsville.
BLAIRSVILLE 3, BOVARD 1: Blairsville won its third straight game to open the season, coming from behind again to knock off two-time defending champion Bovard on the road.
“All three games we had to come back and win,” Blairsville player-coach Joe Culler said. “That’s good to see, but it would be nice to get some runs earlier.”
With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Craig Paouncic, Ben Doak and Jordan Truscott hit consecutive RBI singles to lift the Colts.
Paouncic finished 2-for-3.
Ben Doak earned the win, striking out two and walking three in three innings of relief of Frank Wolford. Wolford struck out five and walked two in two innings.
Blairsville managed just one hit and one walk in six innings against Bovard starter Tim Buzzard, but the Colts touched up Alex Nagy in the sixth. Nagy finished with one strikeout and one walk in one-third of an inning and took the loss.
Brad Walor went 2-for-3 for Bovard.
Both teams play Sunday. Blairsville (3-0) welcomes Trendy Trades, and Bovard (1-2) visits Amfire Mining.
WEST LEBANON 11, APOLLO 8: West Lebanon used back-to-back homers from Anthony Rebyanski and Josh Mottorn in the sixth inning to earn a come-from-behind win over host Apollo.
Rebyanski erased a two-run deficit and put West Lebanon ahead 8-7 by cranking out a three-run shot in the sixth. The next batter, Mottorn, hammered a solo homer.
West Lebanon answered Apollo’s run in the sixth by plating two runs on four walks and a hit batsman in the seventh.
Rebyanski finished 2-for-5 with a double, and Mottorn went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Matt Rebyanski singled, doubled and drove in a run, and Todd Smyers doubled in a run.
Tyler Beitel struck out two and allowed 10 hits in six innings to get the win. Anthony Rebyanski struck out two and allowed no hits in the seventh to notch the save.
Ryan McGonigle led Apollo by going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Phil Shallenberger finished 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, John Shaffer tripled and drove in two runs.
Both teams play Sunday. West Lebanon (2-1) travels to New Derry, and Apollo plays host to Greensburg.
KOAVACIK INSURANCE 7, DERRY 2: Unbeaten Kovacik Insurance scored the game’s first five runs and limited Derry to five hits in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game in Blairsville.
Kovacik used three hits and a walk in the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Josh Daugherty singled twice and drove in three runs to lead Kovacik Insurance.
Winning pitcher Dylan Direnzo struck out two and allowed four hits in four innings.
Both teams play Monday. Kovacik Insurance (3-0) plays host to I-Medical, and Derry welcomes S.W. Jack.
I-MEDICAL 18, DERRY 9: In a game played Wednesday, I-Medical racked up 14 hits and thumped Derry at Grandview Field. No other details were reported.
