BLAIRSVILLE — Unbeaten Blairsville used bursts in the second and third innings and a solid combined effort from pitchers Steve Janik and Neal West to upend Trendy Trades for a 5-1 win in an Indiana County League baseball game Sunday at One-River Field.
Scott Harsh started the scoring for the Colts with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning.
Joel Yandrick trimmed Blairsville’s lead to 2-1 when he singled to score Ryan Bernat in the third.
But the Colts responded in bottom of the third, scoring three runs on two hits and two walks to take a 5-1 lead.
“That’s the first time we’ve had a lead early in a game all year. It’s nice to score runs early,” said Blairsville player-manager Joe Culler, who went 3-for-3.
Cory Manarelli finished 2-for-4 for Blairsville.
Janik struck out three, walked none and allowed four hits in four innings to earn the win. West struck out three, walked none and allowed one hit in three innings of relief.
“We set a goal to win our first seven games,” Culler said. “Indiana’s (Amfire Mining) an important game on Tuesday. The winner will get early control of the top spot in the division.”
Chris Martin paced Homer City-based Trendy Trades by going 2-for-3.
Both teams play Tuesday. Blairsville (4-0) travels to Amfire Mining, and Trendy Trades plays host to Bovard.
