Ligonier Valley ace Hailey Umbaugh tossed a three-hitter, and the Rams raced to an eight-run second-inning lead en route to a 10-4 win over visiting Juniata in the District 6 Class AA softball quarterfinals Monday.

The 10th-seeded Rams (15-3) halted the Cinderella run of 15th-seeded Juniata, which upset second-seeded Penn Cambria in the first round.

Ligonier Valley plated four runs in the bottom of the first and five in the second to jump out to a 9-1 lead.

Maddy Grimm paced Ligonier Valley by going 3-for-3 with a double.

Umbaugh struck out two and walked one.

Ligonier Valley plays host to 14th-seeded Huntingdon, which has already upset third-seeded Blairsville and sixth-seeded Richland, in the semifinals Thursday.
