INDIANA COUNTY YOUTH LEGION: Walbeck Insurance takes pitchers' duel

Walbeck Insurance picked the ideal moment to deliver its only offensive production in a pitchers’ duel against Kovacik Insurance.

Steven Novak ripped his team’s lone hit in the bottom of the seventh inning and then later scored on an error to lift Walbeck Insurance to a 1-0 win over Kovacik Insurance in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game Friday at First Commonwealth Field.

Novak ripped a double in the seventh before scoring on an error for the game-winning run.

Novak also fired a three-hitter, striking out eight and walking none.

Both teams play Monday. Walbeck Insurance (3-5) travels to S.W. Jack and Kovacik Insurance plays host to Marion Center.

I-MEDICAL 6, FEZELL ENTERPRISES 5: I-Medical scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete its comeback from a 5-1 deficit and earn the bragging rights in a clash of the two Punxsutawney-based Indiana County Youth Legion entries.

Trailing 5-4 entering its final at-bats, I-Medical got a leadoff single from Lance Pennington to start the seventh, Dakota Byers followed with a double, and I-Medical then drew two straight walks to force in a run and tie the game at 5.

The hosts won it on the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to complete the comeback.

Fezell Enterprises scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead, and pushed it to 5-1 with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.

I-Medical responded with a three-run bottom of the fifth, to get within 5-4 and set up the seventh-inning rally.

Byers had a double and a triple for I-Medical.

Matt Greenblatt had a double for Fezell.

I-MEDICAL 19, YOUNG TOWNSHIP 2: After needed a final-inning rally in the first game of its doubleheader, I-Medical had a much easier time with Young Township in the second game.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, I-Medical answered with six runs in the bottom of the first, nine in the second and four more in the third, enforcing the 15-run three-inning mercy rule.

I-Medical sent 15 batters to the plate in the second inning.

Byers had a triple, and Pennington added a double.

Ryan Jones earned the win.
