After dropping the opening set, Derry rallied to win the next three sets and downed Lancaster Mennonite, 3-1, in a PIAA Class AA boys’ volleyball quarterfinal-round playoff match Saturday at Slippery Rock High School.
The Trojans won by scores of 22-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-12.
Derry advanced to the state semifinals to play Ambridge in on Tuesday at North Allegheny High School.
Ambridge swept Derry, 3-0, in the WPIAL Class AA championship on May 23.
Blairsville to play at Homer City
Blairsville will play Shady Side Academy at Homer City’s First Commonwealth Field in the first round of the PIAA Class AA baseball playoffs Monday.
Blairsville is the District 6 champion, and Shady Side Academy is the third-place team out of the WPIAL.
Five IHS players make all-star team
Five Indiana High lacrosse players have been selected to the WPIAL Division 2 Section 1 all-star team.
Andrew Wetzel, Tyler Milsop and Sean Rhodes were named to the first team, and Nick Cornell and Keldon Spicher were named to the second team.
McGill’s outslugs McDonald’s
Luke Wachob and Malcom Sadler combined for eight RBIs to lead McGill’s to a 12-2 victory over McDonald’s in an Indiana Little League baseball game.
Wachob had three hits and Sadler had two.
Joey Bujdos struck out six batters and pitched a complete game for McGill’s.
Luke Thomas picked up two hits for McDonald’s.
