ICL BASEBALL: Colts remain unbeaten

A four-run second inning was more than enough for the Blairsville Colts as they ran their record to 8-0-1 with an 8-0 win over Trendy Trades in an Indiana County League baseball game Sunday in Graceton.

Holding a 1-0 lead after the first inning, the Colts batted around the order in their four-run second inning. Frank Wolford led off the inning with a single, and Mike DePanicis and Nick Draghi drew consecutive walks. After Trendy Trades recorded the first out of the inning, Jarred Pennavaria drew a walk that forced in a run. Cory Manarelli followed with a two-run double, and Scott Harsh capped the inning with an RBI single.

Manarelli finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Wolford picked up the win, striking out 10 and walking two in five innings. Neal West allowed no hits in two innings of relief.

Logan Douglas went 2-for-3 to lead Trendy Trades.

Both teams play Tuesday. Blairsville plays host to Amfire Mining, and Trendy Trades travels to Bovard.

 

APOLLO 7-12, GREENSBURG 4-10: Apollo racked up 22 hits and 19 runs in two games and swept visiting Greensburg in a doubleheader.

In Game 1, Apollo trailed 4-3 before plating two runs in the fourth inning and two in the sixth to earn a come-from-behind win.

Apollo plated two runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead.

Apollo then scored two runs on two hits, a walk and an error in the sixth to stretch its lead to 7-4. Phil Shallenberger ripped a two-run single to fuel the onslaught.

Shallenberger struck out 10, walked two and allowed six hits in a complete-game win. Shallenberger also singled twice and drove in three runs.

Ryan McGonigle singled twice and scored twice for Apollo. John Bowser and Ben Carnahan each singled and drove in two runs.

Lou Downey singled twice and drove in three runs for Greensburg. Downey, who took the loss, struck out six and walked three in five innings.

Apollo used a pair of rallies and stormed back to prevail in a slugfest in Game 2.

Apollo wiped out an early four-run deficit and built a 7-4 lead by scoring seven runs on four hits, three walks and an error in the bottom of the second.

Two innings later, Apollo erased a two-run deficit and used four hits, two walks and an error to score five runs and take a 12-9 lead. John Shaffer highlighted the rally with a two-run double. Shaffer finished 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.

McGonigle finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Steve Babyak doubled and drove in two runs, and Mike Bier singled and knocked in two runs.

Cody Kern went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for Greensburg. Tanner Rowe singled three times, and Downey drove in two runs.

Both teams play Tuesday. Apollo (3-7) plays host to New Derry, and Greensburg travels to West Lebanon.
