INDIANA COUNTY LEAGUE: Indies hand Colts first loss

Needing a win to stay above .500, Amfire Mining scored the game’s final seven runs to upset previously unbeaten Blairsville, 7-4, in an Indiana County League baseball game Tuesday at One River Field.

Andrew Gilmore gave the Colts a 3-0 lead by smacking an RBI single that scored Scott Harsh in the bottom of the fourth inning. Two batters later, Joe Culler stretched Blairsville’s lead to 4-0 with an RBI double that scored Gilmore.

But the Indians rallied for five runs in the sixth inning, keyed by hits from Chad Blystone and Jordan Britcher that drove in two runs each. They tacked on two more in the seventh when Danny Clark tripled and scored on P.J. Kuta’s single, and Kuta came around on Troy Trimble’s sacrifice fly to take a 7-4 lead.

Britcher led Indiana with two hits. Winning pitcher Dom Peluso fired a six-hitter. He struck out two and walked three.

Losing pitcher Culler struck out three and walked one in two innings.

Both teams play Thursday. Amfire Mining (5-4) travels to West Lebanon and Blairsville (8-1-1) plays host to Greensburg.

 

TRENDY TRADES 3, BOVARD 0: Chad Martin tossed a gem and visiting Trendy Trades scored a run in three consecutive innings to blank Bovard.

Larry Cadile put Trendy Trades on the board first by cranking a solo homer in the top of the second inning. An inning later, Ryan Bernat scored on a fielder’s choice to make it 2-0.

Martin fired a three-hitter. He struck out six and walked seven. Martin also doubled and drove in a run.

Steve Anderson singled twice to lead Bovard.

Both teams play Thursday. Trendy Trades (3-5) plays host to Apollo and Bovard (5-3-1) travels to New Derry.

 

WEST LEBANON 5, GREENSBURG 1: Tyler Beitel handcuffed Greensburg while second-place West Lebanon scored the game’s final four runs to score a win at Bertolino Field.

Todd Smyers hit a sacrifice fly that scored Matt Rebyanski in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending West Lebanon’s lead to 3-1.

Three batters later, Beitel stroked a triple to drive in another run and make it a 4-1 game.

Beitel tossed a five-hitter. He struck out seven and walked none.

Pascual Matos finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs for West Lebanon. Matt Rebyanski went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

West Lebanon (6-3) travels to Blairsville today. Greensburg heads to Blairsville on Thursday.
