Ligonier Valley’s run in the PIAA Class AA softball playoffs came to an end with a 13-0, five-inning loss to Riverside in the quarterfinal round on Friday.

No further details were reported.

The Rams, the six-time defending Heritage Conference champions, ended the season 17-5.

Following a 13-3 regular season, Ligonier Valley entered the District 6 Class AA playoffs as the 10th seed in the 16-team playoff field.

Unfazed by its low seed, Ligonier Valley reeled off wins against Bald Eagle Area (7-5), Juniata (10-4) and Huntingdon (4-3) to reach the District 6 championship game before falling to Philipsburg-Osceola.

In the opening round of the PIAA playoffs, the Rams nipped District 5 champion Chestnut Ridge, 6-5, to reach Friday’s quarterfinals.
