It’s that time of year again — school is out for the summer and students are looking for activities to occupy their time. The Indiana County office of the American Red Cross, 610 Kolter Drive, White Township, is offering preparedness classes teaching life guarding and first aid on June 24, and babysitting skills online.
Adult and pediatric first aid/CPR/AED will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will cost $110; and adult CPR/AED will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon and will cost $70. In addition to teaching lifesaving skills, these classes can assist students in finding a summer job. This summer, the Red Cross will launch its newest preparedness health and safety course, a babysitting class that gives the option of online learning. The online course gives students babysitting information to ensure children stay safe in the protection of their caretakers.
Interested Indiana residents can enroll this summer by visiting RedCross.org/ Babysitting. This four-hour class is designed to prepare students ages 11 and older for the basics of babysitting. The online training provides the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for infants and children up to age 10, as well as how to manage a babysitting business.
Particular aspects of the class include managing the business of babysitting, playing with kids of all ages, caring for kids and determining what to do in an emergency. Each student who completes the class with an 80 percent or better score is officially certified and receives a printable diploma. This exciting new class will be offered in Indiana this month. The courses will be held at the Red Cross office.
In addition to area residents, businesses, organizations and community groups can register for private instruction from the Red Cross. To register for a nearby individual class, online babysitting class, or private group instruction, call 1(800) RED-CROSS or visit RedCross.org.
