DERRY — Ryan Shirley fired a no-hitter to lead Kovacik Insurance to a 10-0 win over Derry in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game played Saturday at Grandview Field.
Shirley struck out three and walked three. He allowed just three baserunners and only twice allowed a runner to reach third base.
“He just kept the ball down and threw strikes,” Kovacik Insurance manager Dan Shirley said. “He got ahead in counts, and he made them hit his pitches. We also played great defense behind him. We had three or four kids make nice plays in the field, and we didn’t commit an error.”
John Fetchko paced Kovacik Insurance with two doubles and four RBIs. Josh Daugherty singled twice, doubled and drove in three runs, and Doug Pollack singled three times and knocked in a run.
Losing pitcher Alex Rebtoy struck out three and allowed two runs in four innings.
Both teams play Wednesday. Kovacik Insurance (7-2) plays host to S.W. Jack, and Derry (4-5) welcomes Young Township.
