JUNIOR LEGION BASEBALL: Kovacik climbs out of 7-0 hole

Kovacik Insurance wiped out a 7-0 deficit and scored 10 unanswered runs in a 10-7 victory over Young Township in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game Monday at WyoTech Park.

Kovacik Insurance allowed six unearned runs and trailed 7-0 before scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, seven runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth.

In the fifth, Kovacik Insurance took its first lead by plating seven runs on five hits, an error and a walk to make it 8-7. Joseph Faulk and John Fetchko each ripped two-run singles in the inning, and Omar Ward had an RBI double.

Kovacik Insurance scored two runs on two hits, a walk and a hit batsman in the sixth to stretch its lead to 10-7.

“The kids just wouldn’t quit. They wanted to win this game,” Kovacik Insurance manager Dan Shirley said. “They decided they were going to hit the ball one inning, and that’s what they did. It started with a couple of walks. Then we got a couple of hits and the momentum just rolled. We were waiting for that all game.”

Faulk and Rick Shirley each singled twice for Kovacik Insurance.

Corey Ramsden allowed one hit in one inning of relief to pick up the win. Josh Daugherty pitched the last two innings. Daugherty struck out three, walked none and allowed no hits.

Young Township’s Brady Neal struck out three, walked five and allowed eight hits in a complete-game effort.

Both teams play Wednesday. Kovacik Insurance (9-2) plays host to I-Medical, and Young Township (7-4) welcomes Clymer Legion.

 

CLYMER LEGION 9, MARION CENTER 0: Host Clymer Legion managed just five hits but played solid defense and gave its pitchers more than enough run support to earn a victory over winless Marion Center.

Pitchers Clayton Stupic, Kyle Long and Garrett Crow combined to toss a two-hitter for Clymer Legion. Stupic struck out nine, walked two and allowed one hit in five innings to notch the win. Long allowed no hits in one inning of relief, and Crow surrendered one hit in one inning of relief.

Cy Lieb singled twice to lead Clymer Legion.

Both teams play Wednesday. Marion Center (0-15) travels to Fezell Enterprises, and Clymer Legion (9-4) visits Young Township.

 

INDIANA LIONS 7, FEZELL ENTERPRISES 4: Indiana Lions outhit Fezell Enterprises 10-6 and scored the game’s last six runs en route to a win at Lions Field.

The Lions trailed 4-3 before plating four runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Cameron Allmendinger fueled the onslaught with a two-run triple. Ian Helsel added an RBI double.

Helsel finished 2-for-3 with a double, and Allmendinger went 2-for-2.

Helsel also struck out two, walked one and allowed two hits in four innings of relief to pick up the win.

Fezell’s Keeston Perry struck out five and walked two in a complete-game effort.

Both teams play Wednesday. Indiana Lions (7-4) plays host to Derry, and Fezell Enterprises (4-8) welcomes Marion Center.

 

S.W. JACK 13, UNITED NRG 3: S.W. Jack plated seven runs in the first inning and then limited United NRG to five hits to coast to a win in a game that was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule at Hogan Field.

Bobby Bell and Chase Kromer each singled and doubled for S.W. Jack. Cole Shaffer finished 2-for-3.

Joe Wilson fired a five-hitter to earn the win. Wilson struck out one and walked three.

Beau Sheriff singled twice to lead United.

S.W. Jack (9-3) plays host to Derry today, and United (1-9) welcomes Walbeck Insurance on Wednesday.
