SENIOR LEGION BASEBALL: Playoff set to begin

Kovacik Insurance and Marion Center tuned up for the playoffs by posting victories in Indiana County Senior Legion baseball games Tuesday.

The playoffs are scheduled to begin this evening in best-of-three semifinal series. Kovacik Insurance (17-3) plays host to Young Township (12-7), and Marion Center (13-7) travels to Punxsutawney (14-5). The winners meet in the championship series.

 

KOVACIK INSURANCE 8, YOUNG TOWNSHIP 6: Kovacik Insurance, the regular-season champion, plated seven runs in the first two innings and held off Young Township at WyoTech Park.

Reed Ratkus doubled and drove in a run to lead Kovacik Insurance.

Winning pitcher Nick Payne struck out six, walked one and allowed seven hits in five innings. Tayler Sheriff walked none and allowed two hits in two innings of relief.

Mitchel Yard led Young Township with two singles and a double. Mitch Johnston singled twice and drove in a run, Lucas Mowery doubled and drove in two runs, and Adam Deruelle singled and drove in two runs.
