IUP FOOTBALL: Crimson Hawks make Top 25
July 14, 2013 2:40 AM

Coming off a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title last season, the IUP football team was ranked in a pair of preseason top 25 polls released by sports publications recently.

The Crimson Hawks appear at No. 22 in the Sporting News Division II Top 25 preseason poll and at No. 7 in the less-known Lindy’s Magazine Top 25.

IUP went 12-2 last season and won its first PSAC title since 1987 and the first in five seasons since the State Game was revived in 2008 following a 19-year hiatus.

The Crimson Hawks advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs and won two playoff games to reach the national quarterfinals. Sixteen starters return to this year’s team.

IUP appeared at No. 7 in last year’s final poll by the American Football Coaches Association. The AFCA will announce its preseason poll in mid-August.
