BRUSH VALLEY TOWNSHIP — An 83-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon on Route 259.
Robert Penrod, of Brush Valley Township, was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle crashed into a pickup truck around 3:20 p.m., according to Indiana County Chief Deputy Coroner Jerry Overman.
According to Overman and state police in Indiana, the accident occurred when Penrod’s vehicle crossed the centerline near Brookdale Lane and slammed head-on into the pickup truck, which was driven by Clayton Libengood, 70, of Penn Run.
Libengood, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Penrod, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:39 p.m. Overman listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the chest.
