Sanso's claimed the Section 4 Junior League softball title to advance to the Little League state tournament. The Homer City entry beat Bald Eagle in a best-of-three series to earn the title.
Sanso’s took the opening game, 17-11. Morgan Buggey broke the game open with a grand slam in the sixth inning. Abbey Ginter finished with four hits, Buggey had three, and Abby Yancy and Olivia Riley chipped in two apiece. Jess Gess scored four runs, and Emily Worcester posted the win, striking out six in four innings. Sanso’s completed the sweep with a 13-11 win. Buggey banged out four hits, including a double, and Smyers drove in four runs with a pair of hits.
Riley smacked a triple and a single, and Ginter, Mandy McElheny and Holly George added two hits apiece. Worcester picked up the win, and George spurred the defense.
Sanso’s will open the state tournament Wednesday at the West Point fields near Greensburg. Sanso’s will play Warwick at 8 p.m. Wednesday, face Montoursville at 2 p.m. Thursday and take on Lionville at 3 p.m. Friday. Teams that advance from round-robin play will play Saturday and Sunday.
