YOUTH LEGION BASEBALL: Rain washes out three tourney games

HOMER CITY — Rain wiped out all but the first of four games on the first day of the Pennsylvania Youth American Legion Western Region baseball tournament at First Commonwealth Field on Saturday.

Most of the schedule was pushed back to today with new starting times. In the first game of the day, Millcreek takes on Hempfield East at 9:30 a.m. I-Medical, the Indiana County champion, faces Farmington at noon, and S.W. Jack, the Indiana County runner-up, plays Meyersdale at 2:30 p.m.

In the only game played Saturday, Murrysville beat West County, 10-1.

The second round also is scheduled to be played today, with a 4 p.m. game set the White Township Recreation Complex and games at 4:30, 7 and 9 p.m. at First Commonwealth Field.

The double-elimination tournament is scheduled to conclude Wednesday, with the top three teams advancing to the state tournament.

The state tournament is scheduled to be played at Homer City beginning next Saturday.
