LAMPETER (AP) — Firefighters have rescued a 9-year-old boy who got stuck between a shed and a building while trying to retrieve a tennis ball at a school in Lancaster County.

The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reports it happened around 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the Lancaster County Christian School’s West Lampeter Township campus.

Fire officials say the child, whose name was not released, thought he could retrieve the ball and got “severely wedged” in the small space. Lafayette Assistant Chief Ignazio Sabella says when firefighters first got there they could only see his sneakers.

Crews cut the door of the wood shed, removed a wall and used slippery substances like vegetable oil and dishwasher detergent to help lift the boy out. The boy was taken to a hospital, but wasn’t seriously injured.
