5K race set at Marion Center

MARION CENTER — The fourth annual MCXC Summer Classic 5K race will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday on the Marion Center cross country course at the community park.

Race applications can be picked up at the Gingerbread Man Running Co. in Indiana, or participants can register the morning of the event.

West Lebanon family day set

WEST LEBANON — The West Lebanon baseball team of the Indiana County League will hold its inaugural Family Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 17, beginning at noon at Bertolino Field.

All West Lebanon players, past and present, are welcome and are asked to bring a covered dish. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and kielbasa will be provided.

Volleyball rules meeting set

HOMER CITY — The PIAA District 6 volleyball rules interpretation meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today in the LGI Room at Homer-Center High School.

The meeting is mandatory for all coaches and officials.

Legion baseball scramble slated

A golf scramble to benefit the Indiana Legion baseball team will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, at Indian Springs Golf and Country Club.

The cost is $55 per player or $220 per team. Sponsorships are available for $50 per hole or $25 per cart.

Travel baseball teams gearing up

Play Ball Sports is forming travel baseball teams for the 2014 season.

To register for a tryout, or for information, call (724) 801-8036 or email playballsportsindiana@ gmail.com. Those interested are asked to provide the player’s name, age for the 2014 season and parent or guardian contact information.

The registration deadline is Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Clinic to offer concussion tests

Indiana Total Therapy will offer concussion baseline testing on Aug. 3, and the first 40 students 10 years of age or older will get a free test.

Testing will be held at the Human Motion Institute within the Indiana Regional Medical Center campus at 120 IRMC Drive from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 3.

Travel softball teams set tryouts

The Indiana County Explosion travel softball teams will holding tryouts for the 2014 season on Aug. 10 and 11 at Getty Heights Field in Indiana.

Tryouts for the 10U and 12U teams will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the 14U, 16U and 18U teams from 1 to 3 p.m.

An additional session is available on Aug. 13 from 6 to 8 pm at Play Ball Sports in Indiana.

Participants need only to attend one session. They must bring a copy of their birth certificate, registration form and a $10 registration fee.

Soccer boosters open registration

Registration for the Indiana Area Soccer Boosters Fall 2013 travel season and in-house program is under way.

Registration forms for boys and girls in the U10, U12 and U14 age groups and the in-house U8 and U10 programs must be postmarked by July 26.

Annual trail run set Aug. 10

The Indiana Road Runners Club will conduct its annual Run for the Trail 7K on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The race starts at the Dilltown access area of the Ghost Town Trail.

Race-day registration opens at 4:30 p.m., and the race begins at 6 p.m. The first half of the race is on township roads, and the second half is a downhill run to the finish on the Ghost Town Trail.

In addition, there is a 2-mile fun run/walk.
