The local production company Vinegar Hill will host a preview of the feature length film “TWIN REFLEX” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex in White Township.

A science fiction film, it centers on Roy, who battles insomnia.

“Roy spends his sleepless nights watching the comings and goings of his reclusive neighbor, Mr. Robb,” according to a news release. “Convinced that he’s hiding something, Roy breaks into Mr. Robb’s house where he discovers a cache of photographs … photos of himself … in places he’s never been … with people he’s never met. But when Mr. Robb is found dead, Roy is the primary suspect, catapulting him into a race against time to unravel the mystery of his true identity and to prove his innocence.”

David Altrogge, who co-founded Vinegar Hill in 2006 with Ian Murphy, said they “embraced an innovative approach to the filmmaking.” The entire film was improvised using only an outline instead of a traditional script. Actors were told nothing about the plot and were given only their back stories.

“We just began throwing them into situations,” said Altrogge, “they had no idea where we were going. They just gave it their all and brought some incredibly gritty and naturalistic performances.”

“TWIN REFLEX” was filmed in Indiana County. It features a cast of local residents and alumni from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, including the three main actors — Jack Culbertson, Emily Brooks and Hank Fodor, all IUP theater grads.

“As the hometown of Jimmy Stewart, Indiana County has a rich history of filmmaking,” said Altrogge, the film’s director. “We hope that ‘TWIN REFLEX’ does Indiana proud and continues that tradition.”

The filmmakers are currently exploring distribution options and planning to release the film online and on DVD in the fall.

The screening is free and open to the public, including the after-party at The Coney.
