SOFTBALL: Blairsville ends Ligonier's conference streak
April 23, 2013 10:39 AM

Blairsville handed Ligonier Valley its first Heritage Conference loss in six years, and the Bobcats remained undefeated on the season, edging the Rams, 1-0, in a high school softball game Monday in Ligonier.

Abby Peace doubled in the fifth inning, and Cassidy Edmundson doubled her in, scoring the game’s only run and accounting for two of Blairsville’s four hits.

Emilie Okopal tossed a one-hitter, striking out 12 and walking four in seven innings.

“Emilie was right on her game with 12 strikeouts,” Blairsville coach Frank Harsh said. “We played good defense, but with 12 Ks, there’s not a whole lot of defense. She just pitched a heck of a game.”

Ligonier’s Hailey Umbaugh struck out four and did not issue a walk in seven innings.

Both teams play Wednesday. Blairsville (6-0) welcomes Marion Center (5-1), and Ligonier Valley (4-1) travels to Purchase Line.
