MECHANICSBURG (AP) — A sport utility vehicle driver has died of injuries suffered in a four-vehicle crash on a central Pennsylvania interstate involving three tractor-trailers that killed his wife, according to state police.

Trooper Rod Hicks, a state police spokesman, said George Weed, 63, succumbed to his injuries just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Weed was driving an SUV north on Interstate 81 shortly after 4 p.m. Friday when traffic began to slow due to a traffic backlog in Silver Spring Township in Cumberland County.

One tractor-trailer was unable to slow down in time and hit the SUV, sandwiching it into another tractor-trailer, which then hit another truck.
