HEIDELBERG (AP) — Police have filed misdemeanor charges after a 5-year-old boy took his grandmother’s car keys and then drove the vehicle through some hedges and into a neighbor’s house on Monday
Heidelberg police Chief Vernon Barkley said the boy was more scared of getting punished than anything else and wasn’t badly injured. He was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as a precaution after the crash.
Barkley said the boy’s mother and grandmother were charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
He said they weren’t keeping an eye on the boy and didn’t know he had driven off.
Barkley said the women blamed the child’s father for the boy’s interest in driving.
The boy drove the car about a half block before crashing.
