COATESVILLE (AP) — Norfolk Southern said it’s investigating why one of its freight trains derailed in eastern Pennsylvania, sending two cars into a creek.

The accident happened in Valley Township around 3 p.m. Monday as the train was transporting scrap metal for ArcerlorMittal, a steel manufacturing company in Coatesville.

Authorities say the derailment sent two cars plunging into Brandywine Creek.

Norfolk Southern spokes-man Dave Pidgeon said the company is investigating what caused the accident and the best way to get the cars out of the creek.
