Pittsburgh-area native Chuck Shoemaker was named the IUP volleyball assistant coach Friday.

This is Shoemaker’s first full-time coaching job, and he joins first-year coach Aline dos Santos, who was hired this spring for her first head coaching job. A native of Brazil, dos Santos came to IUP from the University of Akron, where she served as an assistant for five seasons.

Shoemaker spent last season at University of Cumberlands, where he was a graduate assistant and head coach of the junior varsity team.

Prior to that, Shoemaker was an assistant at Deer Lakes High School in 2011, the same year he graduated from Clarion University. He was the women’s volleyball manager during his four years as a student at Clarion.

Shoemaker has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a minor in athletic coaching from Clarion and a master’s degree in education from Cumberblands.
