ICL PLAYOFFS: NEW DERRY 12, TRENDY TRADES 4

New Derry broke open a close game in the later innings and rolled over Trendy Trades in the opening game of their first-round series.

Trailing 1-0, New Derry scored seven runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a commanding 12-1 lead.

Tommy Kelly led the way for New Derry (15-13), the third seed, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Dom DePalma and Scott Dixon drove in two runs apiece, and Keith Rhea hit a solo home run. Zach Dixon had two hits and an RBI.

Zach Bowman took care of matters on the mound, striking out three and walking three in a complete-game effort. Bowman yielded a three-run homer to Chad Martin in the seventh.

Josh Casses and Joel Yandrick each had two hits for Trendy Trades (10-15), the sixth seed.

Matt Wilson suffered the loss.

The series resumes this evening at Graceton.
