PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police have charged a father and son with scamming a consulting firm out of $123,000 to fuel their gambling habit at Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino.
Defense attorney Michael DeRiso says he hasn’t had a chance to review the charges or evidence against his clients in detail. They are Joseph Kocutt Sr., 43, and Joseph Kocutt Jr., 25, both of Penn Hills.
The Allegheny County district attorney’s office says Joseph Kocutt Sr. approached a man with an offer to sell 5,000 television converter boxes and received some money for them, but never delivered. That happened in July, and investigators say the customer has been unable to get a refund since.
In the meantime, investigators say the Kocutts emptied out their bank account by having Joseph Kocutt Jr. write checks to his father, who cashed them at the casino.
