JUNIOR HIGH SOCCER: Indiana girls win opener

HERMININE — Indiana won its season opener by blanking Yough, 2-0, in a seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ soccer match Thursday.

Kaitlyn Stossel and Brooke Ianarelli each scored a goal for Indiana. Goalie Ella Spadafora made seven saves.

Indiana (1-0) travels to Mount Pleasant on Wednesday.

LV golf team improves to 3-1

BOLIVAR — Ligonier Valley improved to 3-1 by defeating Blairsville, 213-232, in a Heritage Conference boys’ golf match Thursday at Champion Lakes Golf Course.

Randy Bates tied a low score in the match with a 37 for Ligonier Valley. Phil Cornell carded a 43, Brandon Silvis and Dylon Kuhn each posted a 44, and Thomas McKnight had a 45.

Jake Shirley led Blairsville with a 37. John Distefano and Jake Swiencki each shot a 47.

Blairsville (2-3) plays host to Saltsburg on Tuesday.

• BLAIRSVILLE — Andrew Gaydosh shot a 38 and medaled to lead Homer-Center to a 214-253 win over United in a Heritage Conference match at Chestnut Ridge Golf Course.

Logan Dellafiora shot a 41 for Homer-Center. Joe Capitosti fired a 44, Alex Arone had a 45, and John Capitosti and Colin Moore each carded a 46.

Garrett Stinson shot a 43 to pace United. Ben Smith carded a 45, and A.J. Bono had a 49.

Both teams play Tuesday. Homer-Center (3-1) travels to Ligonier Valley and United (1-2) plays host to Northern Cambria.
