BOSTON (AP) — The Bruins signed general manager Peter Chiarelli, who built the team that reached the Stanley Cup Finals twice in three years, to a four-year contract extension that would keep him in Boston through the 2017-18 season.

Chiarelli, 49, will enter his eighth season with Boston when training camp opens next month. The Bruins have qualified for the playoffs in six of his first seven years on the job, compiling a 50-35 postseason record and winning the Stanley Cup in 2011.
