LIGONIER TOWNSHIP — Homer-Center improved to 4-1 by edging Ligonier Valley, 232-235, in a Heritage Conference boys’ golf match at Champion Lakes Golf Course on Tuesday.
Homer-Center’s Logan Dellafiora posted a 41 and was the mealist. Andrew Gaydosh added a 45, John Capitosti carded a 48, and Colin Moore and Alex Arone each had a 49.
Dylon Kuhn led Ligonier Valley with a 42. Brandon Silvis and Al Vigliotti each fired a 47, and Phil Cornell had a 49.
Both teams play Thursday. Homer-Center plays host to Northern Cambria, and Ligonier Valley (3-2) travels to Saltsburg.
• BURRELL TOWNSHIP — Jake Shirley fired a 39 and was the medalist in Blairsville’s 230-274 win over Saltsburg in a Heritage Conference match at Chestnut Ridge Golf Course.
Jake Swiencki added a 43 for Blairsville, and Tyler Jasper carded a 47.
Katie Traeger and Carrie Muir each shot a 51 for Saltsburg.
Blairsville (3-3) plays host to United on Thursday, and Saltsburg (0-5) welcomes Northern Cambria on Monday.
IHS boys move to 3-0
Indiana blanked Greensburg Salem, 3-0, in a WPIAL Section 1-AA boys’ soccer match at Fifth Street Field on Tuesday.
Braydon Sharbaugh scored two goals to pace Indiana. Cole Rosenberger added a goal and an assist, and Michael McKelvy and Hunter Pitzerell each had an assist. Goalie Corey Denlinger made four saves.
Greensburg Salem won the junior varsity match, 4-0.
Indiana (3-0, 1-0 section) travels to Mount Pleasant on Thursday.
IHS girls sweep Ford City
Indiana swept winless Ford City in a WPIAL Section 4-AA girls’ tennis doubleheader at the White Township Recreation Complex on Tuesday.
The Indians won both matches, 5-0.
In the first match, Lucy Bujdos, Megan Clawson and Kate Palko each won in straight sets in singles play. The doubles team of Kylie Horvath and Carly Morrow won in straight sets, and the team of Margaux Marcus and Jennifer Han followed suit.
Clawson, Morrow and Marcus each won in straight sets in singles play in the second match. The doubles teams of Eugina Chun and Nyla Numan and Elle Varner and Jean Marie Stalteri each won in straight sets.
Indiana (5-0, 3-0 section) travels to Burrell on Wednesday.
Penns Manor opens with win
KENWOOD — Penns Manor opened the season by sweeping Glendale, 25-2, 25-10, 25-6, in a non-conference girls’ volleyball match Thursday.
Mallory Drahnak notched 15 assists to pace Penns Manor. Mary Roach added six aces, and Sarah DaBella and Taylor Rainey each had five kills.
Penns Manor won the junior varsity match, 25-6, 25-6.
Penns Manor plays host to United on Thursday.
Calvary Baptist drops match
CLYMER — Mount Zion Christian Sdefeated Calvary Baptist, 25-20, 15-25, 25-23, 27-25, in a non-conference girls volleyball match Tuesday.
Megan Plants led Calvary Baptist with eight kills, 15 service points and four aces. Amy Frick added nine kills, and Kayla Chambers tacked on 12 service points.
Calvary Baptist (0-1) plays host to Blue Mountain Christian in the opening round of the Patriot Invitational Tournament on Friday.
Junior high teams score wins
LIGONIER — Homer-Center defeated Ligonier Valley, 47-27, in a ninth-grade girls’ basketball game Tuesday in Ligonier.
Haley Dies scored a game-high 12 points to lead Homer-Center. Madison Valyo added eight points and 11 rebounds, and Emily Worcester tacked on 13 steals.
Ligonier Valley won the seventh- and eighth-grade game, 23-19.
• KENWOOD — Rena Enterline scored a game-high 23 points to lead Blairsville to a 46-26 win over Penns Manor.
Catherine Martin added 15 points for Blairsville.
Maddie Weaver scored eight points to pace Penns Manor.
Blairsville won the seventh- and eighth-grade game, 19-9.
• MARION CENTER — Purchase Line edged host Marion Center behind 19 points from Megan Faught.
Mariah Syktich scored eight points for Marion Center.
Marion Center won the seventh- and eighth-grade game.
• ARMAGH — Casey Cameron scored a game-high 12 points to pace United to a 16-7 win over Saltsburg.
Isabel Satler scored four points to lead Saltsburg.
United won the seventh- and eighth-grade game, 16-15.
Indiana rolls over Altoona
Indiana shut out Altoona, 30, in a seventh-grade football game Tuesday.
Luke Thomas scored on 65- and 18-yard runs, David McElravy raced 21 yards for a score, and Ryan Dixson hauled in a 45-yard scoring pass from Luke Thomas. Mikail Bajwa, David McElravy and Chase Cunningham scored two-point conversions.
