H.S. FOOTBALL: Blairsville 34, Purchase Line 26
PURCHASE LINE — Blairsville played well enough to overcome its costly mistakes and held off Purchase Line in a Heritage Conference football game Friday night at Barry T. Madill Memorial Field.
Scott Thompson was 14 of 21 passing for 206 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown, and Deion Robinson gained 82 yards on 21 carries, running for two touchdowns for the Bobcats (2-0). Meanwhile, Grant Syster had a monster night for Purchase Line (0-2) with 277 yards on 34 carries and three scores.
Blairsville dominated the first half, outgaining Purchase Line 191-84 and taking a 20-0 lead into the half. Thompson fumbled the first two snaps he took in the second half, though, and Purchase Line recovered both times to score, first on a 12-yard run by Syster and then a 13-yard pass from Alec Sunderlin to Quentin Woods.
The Bobcats regrouped with two consecutive scores to take a 34-12 lead in the middle of the fourth quarter. Thompson hit Cameron Livingston on an impressive 10-yard pass after recovering a high snap, then the quarterback ran it in from 5 yards, giving the Bobcats plenty of cushion as Syster gave the Dragons two scores late in the game.
Colton McMillan led the Blairsville receivers with five catches for 84 yards. Robinson had four grabs for 59 yards.
