HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL: Ligonier storms back from 0-2 hole to win opener

LIGONIER — Ligonier Valley won its season opener and stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to outlast Hollidaysburg, 20-25, 23-25, 25-16, 29-27, 15-10, in a non-conference girls’ volleyball match Wednesday.

Rachel Wallace led Ligonier Valley with eight aces, 13 service points and 11 digs. Becca Kromel added 12 service points and 12 kills, Hannah Yeskey chipped in 31 assists, Maddy McLaughlin had 10 digs and eight kills, and Taylor Rudnik tacked on eight kills.

Hollidaysburg won the junior varsity match, 25-23, 25-20.

Ligonier Valley travels to Blairsville today.

• NuMINE — Greensburg Central Catholic swept West Shamokin, 25-12, 25-17, 25-21, in a WPIAL Section 1-A match in NuMine. No further details were available.

Greensburg Central Catholic won the junior varsity match, 25-23, 25-13.

West Shamokin (0-1) travels to Trinity Christian School today.
