HS GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Indiana jumps on Wildcats, improves to 2-0

Indiana hit the road for the first time this young season and topped Kittanning in four games, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 25-10, in a WPIAL Section 3-AA girls’ volleyball match Thursday evening in Kittanning.

Natalie Cignetti made 14 kills and four blocks to lead the Indians. Aaryn Gray had six kills.

Kittanning won the junior varsity match, two games to none.

Indiana (2-0, 2-0 section) will participate in the Derry tournament on Saturday, then return to match play Monday, when it plays host to Knoch.

 

NORTHERN CAMBRIA 3, UNITED 0: Northern Cambria bounced back from a five-game loss to Penns Manor, making quick work of United, 25-21, 25-13, 25-17, in a Heritage Conference match at home.

Olivia Zernick led Northern Cambria in service points and digs, while Lyda Bartlebaugh led United in digs.

“I thought the liberos for both Northern Cambria and United were the best players out there tonight,” Northern Cambria coach Mike Hogan said.

Northern Cambria won the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-12.

Northern Cambria (2-1) and United (0-3) will be part of the 25-team field at the Saint Francis University tournament on Saturday.

 

PENNS MANOR 3, PURCHASE LINE 1: After dropping the opening game, Penns Manor won three straight games to dispatch Purchase Line, 25-27, 25-23, 25-19, 25-13, in a Heritage Conference match in Kenwood.

Sarah DaBella had 16 kills to lead the Comets. Heather Aikens added 11 kills and Mary Roach had six. Mallory Drahnak dished out 34 assists.

Mikhala Stover led Purchase Line with 10 kills and five digs. Jacelyn Fleming had seven kills and three blocks. Koren McCullough added six kills, Anna Harkleroad seven digs, and Megan Hudson had 11 service points to go along with 28 assists.

Purchase Line won the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-11.

Penns Manor (4-0) visits Homer-Center on Wednesday. Purchase Line (2-2) travels to Ligonier Valley on Tuesday.

 

BLAIRSVILLE 3, HOMER-CENTER 0: Blairsville swept Homer-Center, 25-10, 25-21, 25-21, in a Heritage Conference match in Homer City.

Kia Clayton led the Bobcats with 12 kills, and Abby Peace added eight kills and 12 assists. Kristina Pizer distributed 16 assists.

Homer-Center won the junior varsity matcy, 25-17, 22-25, 15-4.

Both teams play home matches on Tuesday. Blairsville (2-1) welcomes Northern Cambria, and Homer-Center (0-3) plays host to Penns Manor.

 

LIGONIER VALLEY 3, MARION CENTER 0: Ligonier Valley improved to 4-0 and 3-0 in the Heritage Conference, winning, 25-14, 25-23, 25-15, at Marion Center.

Becca Kromel recorded 15 service points, including eight aces, and had eight kills for the Rams. Shelby Shearer added 12 service points and six aces.

Ligonier Valley won the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-20.

Both teams play home matches on Tuesday. Ligonier Valley welcomes Purchase Line, and Marion Center plays host to United.
