100TH BIRTHDAY: Emmelene Keating

Emmelene Keating will celebrate her 100th birthday Oct. 5. She was born in Blairsville in 1913.

After graduating from high school, Keating went to nurses’ training at Indiana Hospital, Indiana, and became a registered nurse.

She became a school nurse for Green Township High School in 1952 and continued at Purchase Line High Junior-Senior High School when it was built until 1975.

She married Harold Keating in August 1937. They made their home in Purchase Line. Mr. Keating died in 1992.

She has one daughter, Patricia (Keating) Murphy; three grandchildren: Mark, David and Melanie; and one great-grandchild, Andrea Murphy.

Her two sisters are also living: Virginia Heath, of Marietta, Ga., and Doris Guseman, of Port Orchard, Wash.
