Fifteen Indiana County 4-H horse members have qualified 21 animals for the State 4-H Horse Production Show to be held in Harrisburg in October. Members qualified by winning a blue ribbon at an area horse production show where nearly 100 horses were exhibited.

In breed classes, blue ribbons went to Alexis Zaragoza, Morgan filly of this year and yearling filly, and Alex Ruffner, paint colt/gelding of this year. In the quarter horse breed, blue ribbons were won by James Barnhart and Kelsey Henry, colts/gelding of this year; Paige Almes and Haley Brooks, 2-year-old gelding; Emily Vojtek, 3-year-old gelding; Kaya Cahill and Alex Ruffner, filly of this year; and Andrew Adams, yearling filly.

Winners in the Miniature Horse division were Paige Almes, 2-year-old gelding; Tori Lichtenfels, 3-year-old gelding and 2-year-old filly; and Samantha Zaragoza, 3-year-old filly.

In the grade Miniature type class, James Barnhart and Michaela Bush won blue ribbons. Maggie Carty received a red ribbon in the Hunter Type Horse 3-year-old filly class.

Several members competed in riding classes for older horses. Blue ribbon winners in English futurity were Angela Moretti and Lauren Overdorff, 4-year-old, and Tessa Rankin and Alex Ruffner, 5-year-old.

Red ribbon English futurity winners were Paige Almes, 2-year-old, and Maggie Carty, 3-year-old.

The purpose of the horse production program is for 4-H members to work with broodmares and raise and train young horses.
