H.S. FOOTBALL: Saltsburg 14, United 13
ARMAGH — Fullback Steve Richards hit Garrett Amorose with a pass on a fake extra point to pull Saltsburg ahead in a win over United in a sloppy Heritage Conference football game at Thomas J. Madill Field.
Frankie Plowman threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Frassenei to set up the game-winning two-point conversion with 7:13 left in the fourth quarter.
Neither team scored in the first half.
The Trojans got on the board first on a 69-yard run by Richards at the 8:40 mark in the third quarter, but Jimmy Beitel missed the extra point.
The Lions answered on their next possession when quarterback Matt Dill connected with Weylon McGeary for a 20-yard touchdown, and Jake Beacker added the extra point to put United up 7-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Saltsburg’s Lucas Mowery fumbled at the Trojans’ 14-yard line, and it was recovered by the Lions.
Dill then hit McGeary for a 32-yard pass, and Tyler Mack punched it in from the 1-yard line to give United a 13-6 lead after a missed extra point.
In a game that featured 18 penalties, two lost fumbles on kickoffs and six turnovers on downs, the Trojans prevailed in the matchup of previously winless teams.
