TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A teen has been convicted of plotting to kill students and teachers in a mass shooting at Bartlesville High School in northeastern Oklahoma.

A Washington County jury on Tuesday found Sammie Eaglebear Chavez, 19, guilty of planning to cause bodily harm and recommended a 30-month prison term.

The jury found Chavez not guilty of conspiring to perform an act of violence.

Chavez, who pleaded not guilty, testified in his own defense Tuesday that he was joking when he described to classmates how a gun and bomb attack could be committed.
