McDONALD — In a match played Tuesday, Derry bowed out of the WPIAL Class AA girls’ tennis playoffs with a 4-1 loss to Fort Cherry in a preliminary-round match.

“We struggled in doubles,” Derry coach Tom Tatone said. “The Fort Cherry teams were disciplined and in good position at all times. It was a good learning experience for our younger players.”

Maria Palombo won in straight sets in singles play to score the lone point for the Trojans.

Derry finished the season with an overall record of 7-7 and a section mark of 7-5.
